The other day, one of my friends told me that he can play golf while closing his eyes. I laughed and ignored him because I thought that was only a joke. Eyes along with nose, ears, hands etc.are very important part of your body which help we navigate and control our actions. When we lose one of these senses, we have a lot of problems. In golf, the sport that require a good vision, how can we play without vision and close our eyes. But in fact, after some researches, I realize that many famous golf players are making their putts with their eyes closed. If they can do it and still play well then why not trying to learn from them and maybe someday you can enhance your skills by applying these tips in your golf games.
The famous professional golf player who play her putts with her eyes shut
Before going further into the secret tips and techniques of this crazy skill, I want to tell you a typical example of golf players who are playing with their eyes shut. Have you ever heard of Lexi Thompson? If you have never then you should learn some information from her because she has shared some very helpful tips during her interviews. She is the one who makes a statement that she can make the best putts when she closes her eyes. She is the inspiration for people who want to learn more about this unique technique.
The underlying theory
Golf is so special as a sport because you do not have to look at your target all the time. Before making the swings, you look at the targeted hole and make assumption of the distance and decide how strong should you hit your ball. After that you can focus on your ball and your swing without looking at the hole. In other words, you can make a picture in your mind about the whole environment around you and then calculate all the information leading you to the best score. However, it is not simple like saying because there are too many distractions that keep you from focus 100% on your target and your ball. You may feel distracted or on opposite too nervous when hearing what your friends or your competitors are talking and then you hold too tight to your clubs and end up making a bad swing. The key for success in playing golf is to be natural and let your body do its work. But when you are nervous, how can you focus on your performance and make it done in a natural way.
Close your eyes and take a deep breath
So closing your eyes in these cases does not mean limiting your senses but to keep you away from distractions and make you focus on your playing. You need to create a quiet zone for you and practise it whenever you can to make it a habit. When you close your eyes, you can use your mind to picture the target and then your body has the opportunity to work based on its instincts but not your orders. When you learn to trust your body and let it go the way it wants then you increase the chance to get better results. This is especially true for making putts because when you are close to the hole and the expectation is high, you tend to be nervous and make it worse than it is in fact.
