Go up and up and up the green

September 18, 2016

I have introduced to you about the putting tips in my previous article. However, it is not enough for your to climb up the green successfully. You need to do more than that to win the game. Normally, amateurs make their putts to seize the ball up the green first when they get to it. The theory is when you get the ball up to the green then it is all left to do is to hit the ball straight to the holes.

But if it is that easy, then you do not need me and my page anymore. The difficult thing here is how to seize the ball up in the right direction that required for the ball to go right up the green. It is very important that you not to do your putts but to help your ball to climb up the slopes first. Luckily, I have in my hands some tips for you to deal with and may they help you to overcome the problems.

Rule No. 1: Do not hurrygreen

Like when you fight a battle, you have to learn about your enemy and how to win them, all about their strengths and weaknesses. Take the green as a big green giant and your want to win its head, you have to know well about the giant. You must know how slope the sides are and if the hole is on the left or right from where you are standing. All these are for you to decide how the ball will roll up to the right direction.

Rule No. 2: See how far it is

If you want your putts to be good then you have to take into consideration two main things, the distance and the direction. If you forget one of these things, it is likely that you will fail the putts. For direction, it is something you can get from learning the green well. But for the distance, learning the green is not enough, you have to practise and do it as much as possible. It is different to putt upward and downward the green. If you are going up, you should aim further over the holes. On the other hand, if you are going downward, you should aim shorter than the holes. These help you make up for the wrong assumption.

Rule No. 3: Do not over assume

I once mentioned in one of my article about the fact that we have to trust our instinct because sometimes it works better than any kind of machine. This is the reason why in your putt, even though you have to learn about the green and take out valuable information but you should not rely on them only and do too much. It is such a waste of time and also makes you hesitate to take the putts. I know many people, who are very careful and detailed when they read the green but after that they do not dare to hit the ball. You should practise when you have the opportunity and let all be the way they are.
